On the 3rd of April 2012, we welcomed volunteer Barbara Pereira to the Wanalea Family! Barbara is staying in Kenya for one year under the European Voluntary Service.

The European Voluntary Service is integrated in Youth in Action Program promoted by the European Commission. It allows young European people under 30 years of age to participate in a social project as volunteers in several foreign countries. ADDHU applied to this program in partnership with a Portuguese youth organization called Casa da Juventude de Amarante, which was the organization responsible for submitting the application to the European Commission. ADDHU would like to express its most sincere gratitude to the Casa da Juventude de Amarante, especially to Catarina Duarte. Thank you for believing in our work and for giving us this opportunity.

Barbara will be living with the Wanalea Family for one year in order to provide the support the children need, especially in terms of academic and school support, as well as personal and social development. Barbara will also be implementing a civic and environmental education program in the Soweto slums.

Welcome to our family Barbara! Karibu Kenya!
